The American Gooner

As mentioned a few month earlier we have a new blog section for our English speaking readers. It's called The American Gooner and written by Cameron. Here is his first piece regarding the January transfer window. Enjoy

It is the time that all Arsenal fans look forward to with anticipation. However, once it is upon us, it is something that we can’t wait for it to end. Yes, I am referring to the January transfer window. As the window is primed to slam shut, it is a good time to reflect on the state of the squad and those coming in and potentially going out.

First, there is the positive signing of young Thomas Eisfeld. Before yesterday, not many of us had heard of this young German midfielder. It seems that there are two factions of gooners when it comes to this signing. There are those who think he is the next Bischoff and there are those who think he is the next Fabregas. I, however, would like to see him as the FIRST Thomas Eisfeld. An easy pitfall for us would be to hold him up to the achievements and failures of those who have come before him. He may quickly show us that he is ready to make an impact on the squad, or he may take some time. It is not Eisfeld’s fault that he is no Mario Götze. He will need the time to become his own player and fit into the squad.

Other than the Eisfeld news, there have been many rumours of our favourite Russian possibly leaving the club. Money bloated Russian club Anzhi were reportedly in preliminary talks with him according the Sky Sports, but these reports seem to be premature. I personally cannot see Arshavin leaving in this window, but this is mostly a gut feeling. We have more time to follow this story though because the Russian window will remain open till late February.

Unless you are a QPR supporter, this has been a relatively tame January window. Now we will look towards the conclusion of this campaign, and the summer window that lies at the end of it. This summer will undoubtedly be a very exciting one for Arsenal supporters, though our qualification for the Champions League is going to be crucial. This is my first blog entry for German Gunners, but hopefully it can turn into a more regular thing! Until next time, cheers and up the Arsenal!
